Since its founding in 1962, Welthungerhilfe (WHH) has supported nearly 12,800 international projects across 72 countries, investing €5.4 billion. Operating in 37 countries and reaching an estimated 19 million people in 2024 alone, its mission is to help achieve the UN's Zero Hunger goal by 2030.
To support an ambitious digital transformation program, WHH — one of Germany's largest private humanitarian and development organizations — has chosen Porto to build its first tech team in the country, partnering with xelerate.tech. The project kicked off this month with SAP specialists, with further hiring planned over the coming months. xelerate.tech says the choice reflects WHH's commitment to a long-term collaboration model built around integrated teams.
Malte Neuser, WHH's team lead for business solutions, said xelerate.tech's highly skilled talent and agile way of working stood out, along with a collaboration model that allows WHH to build a team truly integrated into its organization long-term.
The digital transformation aims to boost operational efficiency, cut down administrative processes, and strengthen transparency and responsiveness across WHH's international operations. xelerate.tech CEO Martin Zierheim said combining the complexity of a global tech transformation with a mission that impacts millions of people worldwide is exactly the kind of meaningful challenge the company believes in.
The modernization includes rolling out SAP S/4HANA, replacing existing systems with a more integrated platform for managing the organization's global resources and processes, with full operation targeted for 2028.
